Our Lace Bra Kits take the guesswork out of bra building by putting together everything you'll need to make a beautiful bra using your own pattern. If you need a pattern, we have a great selection on our Patterns Page, both paper and downloadable.

This spring we've got something wonderful for you! Straight from the magic of fairy tales, folk songs, and great literature- a collection of beautiful laces, prints and colors that blend together for an enchanting canvas for your creativity.  There was a movie several years ago named Ever After. It was a new telling of the Cinderella story and starred Drew Barrymore. In one memorable scene, "Cinderella" showed up to the ball in an exquisite butterfly costume -- oh so dramatic and beautiful. When we saw this lace which features exquisite butterfly wings, we were immediately reminded of this movie. The oh-so-creative Liz took this lace and made this gorgeous creation. The cup is a 4-piece vertical seamed cup, and she used lots of darts and care to get the 2 halves of the butterfly to perfectly mirror on the cup. She also echoed the cool strap treatment that you see on the Galina by Madalynne on her underwired bra. Isn't she clever? We'll chat with her on the first Friday in May to see how she did it all! If you want to do a similar strap treatment you should order 2-3 extra yards of strap elastic. This lace has a mirrored half of a butterfly along the top edge of the lace, so you can put your motifs however you like. You can mirror on the cup as Liz did, you can mirror across the bridge for a butterfly in the center of your chest, you can extend your frame and mirror on the frame. You are only limited by your imagination! The colors in the lace are Hydrangea and Surf, so those are the colors that we're using with the fabrics in Hydrangea and the elastics in Surf. Please let us know if you want us to swap them around for you.

This bra kit features your choice of Microduoplex, Super Simplex, Tricot, Sheer Cup Lining or Microlycra as the base fabric. One kit contains everything that you need to make a bra and has enough fabric for 2 with many sizes if you pick up an extra bra finishing kit. To get the second bra with larger sizes, upgrade to the half yard of cup fabric and add a bra finishing kit.

Sewing Notes:
The strength of our microduoplex fabric, which makes it so wonderful for bras, also makes it hard to puncture with needles and pins. This is true with most duoplex fabrics. Use either fine silk pins or Wonder Clips to pin (I find Wonder Clips work best), and a Microtex 80/12 needle with a smooth thread like Superior Threads So Fine or Mettler Metrosene to make it easy to sew. In my testing, the So Fine thread and Microtex 80/12 won the challenge of the nicest stitch on microduoplex, and as long as my presser foot completely covered the seam allowance, I found it just as easy to sew as quilting cotton. I moved the needle to the right to set my seam allowance at 1/4" since my presser foot is a bit wide. I find it works well to saturate the lace with liquid starch and let it dry before laying out your pattern pieces and cutting your fabric. This stiffens the lace until you wash it and the lace has enough body to behave well in the sewing process.
We offer all these pins, clips, needles and thread here on our site.
